Macbook problem confirmed…

So it is confirmed that my Macbook’s sudden shutdown at around 50 minutes left of power is due to the battery. I got myself a new one yesterday and I charged it up to full and let it run till it was flat. This time round it didn’t just shutdown but went to the usual sleep mode. So I guess I’ll have to find a way to dispose of the older battery.

Need to rework the shoulder…

Still feeling some level of tightness around the shoulder blade area. Think the muscles and nerves are healing well but it’s still not as good as it used to be. I should start working out on that part more to start strengthening it.

When will I see you again?

My camera.

It’s been a while since I last went for a proper photo shoot. It’s been shooting for work work work and I really need to do some recreation shoot before I loose the feel for it. My recent fiddling with iphoto coupled with coming across some nice online galleries has sort of made my trigger finger itchy again. Maybe I should carry my compact camera with me more so that I could at least do some simple shooting…

What’s the value of a contract?

Read from the papers that cable TV subscribers are going to have to PAY MORE for their subscriptions AGAIN just to watch their soccer matches. While it is understandable that they need to increase their prices due to increasing costs but how about those who have contracts with the TV providers?

As a contract subscriber, you are bounded by the contract and CANNOT unsubscribe from their service. But as the providers, there is no vice-versa provision, they are allowed to change the pricing as and when they see fit. What is to prevent them from changing it to an amount that is astronomical? NOTHING. The consumer has no protection with regards to this.

I think if the provider changes the price in the contract, they are effectively BREAKING THE CONTRACT, which means that the subscriber can and should be allowed to make a choice of whether or not their should continue subscribing to the service without any penalty.

I am surprised that they are going to do the same thing again and I guess it has got something to do with the sudden silence of the same issue the last time it happened. I remembered a flurry of emails and letters to the forum about this but suddenly there was no mention of anything at all.

Well, conspiracy theory aside, for the fairness of both consumers and providers, something should and must be done soon about this time round.

Straitstimes Interactive Ads are IRRITATING!!!

Recently the Straitstimes Interactive started adding ads in their pages that are very irritating. I understand the need to bring in ADDITIONAL income despite the fact that they’re already making people pay for subscriptions. But I think a lot is left to be desired for their usability.

Here are some suggestions.

  • DO NOT BLOCK OUR VIEW!!! It is very irritating to have the page you’re trying to view blocked out by the ads that you have to either click a “not so easily seen” icon to close it or wait for it to finish its run.
  • STOP MOVING THINGS AROUND!!! Having banner ads are fine but could they not do it without moving the pages around when it resizes? First I scroll to the article and start reading, then the page starts moving around and scrolls up when the stinking banner ad shrinks after its run. I get confused and irritated because the article I was reading has been moved out of my view.

I can only say that the way they’ve managed their ads on their site has definitely cost their advertisers to lose more of their reach because I don’t even read those ads because they irritate me, second, the advertisers are getting pissed off customers like me who might, and I say might, know who they are now but would definitely, and I say DEFINITELY, think twice about buying crap that is related to a pissed off experience they had.

Immobile mobility?

According to the person at the service center, MacBooks are prone to hard disk failure. Which means I essentially have a lap top that should not be moved around too much. -_-”

Mood of clearence…

Ahh! Finally! After the major clean up I did a couple of weeks ago, I’m now in the mood to continue the session… Guess it’s also because of all the stuff that I’ve potentially got to bring home and the deadline’s coming real soon… Ok… Time to get ready… ;P

Joys of a Mac

I’ve been a Mac user for the last 6 years. It’s been a platform that I’m working on for my work and it’s been really only for work. Once in a while I’ll play some games or have some simple fun on it but that would be all. But recent events happening around me got me looking at some stuff on the net about the mac and that’s when I discovered iLife.

I never knew a Mac could be so fun. I mean, I am able to create albums, movies and manage a host of other fun stuff all with the Mac and then get real books and calendars printed with them! I saw the video demo online and I was totally blown away. Now I’m itching to get myself a copy. Can’t wait to visit the Mac shop tomorrow… :P

I’m in pain…

The non fracture I have is becoming as painful as a fracture. I’m hurting like crazy now. I really hope I could get to the sinseh in time tomorrow and hopefully he can do something about it. :-(

Thank God it’s not a fracture…

After 2 sleepless nights due to the pain, I decided to go down to the doctor’s yesterday. Got quite a scare for a moment as the doctor suspected 2 possibilities. Either a fracture rib or muscle /nerve damage.

I decided I couldn’t wait and went for an x-ray immediately. Came back to the doctor for a consultation and she said that the films show that there’s no fracture, so it’s most likely a damaged muscle / nerve. Thank God for that. Crazy thoughts were running through my head during those few hours where things were uncertain. Now the question is, how did my muscle / nerve get damaged?

Health Screening…

After much goading from friends I finally booked myself a health screening package scheduled for this morning. I was slightly late, around 5 minutes, due to the disappearing taxis again. Can’t seem to call through their booking hotline as well, think it’s due to the rain.

Anyway, they took my blood, 8ml, urine sample, weight, blood pressure, body fat measurement, ECG… Generally they said everything seems alright except for the ECG and the blood work. They can only let me know about the blood work next week. The other thing is the ECG, they strongly suggest that I come back for the consultation next week regarding my ECG, which got me a bit worried. They said there’s something about it that I should talk to the doctor about but it may be nothing. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed and praying hard that nothing serious about this may come out next week…

Things you can’t do without your wrist…

I’ve decided to compile a list of stuff that one cannot do without a working wrist.

  • Ride a bike (road). You need to flick or turn your wrist to change gears.
  • Play the guitar. You need to be able to bend your wrist.
  • Carry heavy stuff. Somehow it doesn’t work without your wrist.
  • Chin ups.
  • Push ups.
  • Arm wrestling.
  • Give massages.

Sheesh… How am I to get through these 2 weeks…

I really did it this time..

Sigh…
