Space… Do we really need to fill it up?
Space.
We have this inherent need to fill it up. Why can’t we just leave it as it is? It seems like we are continuously looking for something to just fill an area where air and nothingness use to occupy.
Homes.
Many times I visit someone’s place for their housewarming and see all the nice space available. I would praise them for how cozy and relaxing it feels to be in their home only to wonder what happened months later when I visited them again. Somehow they would find means and ways to fill up those spaces.
I think maybe it’s not that we have a need to fill up the space but there is a need to hoard. From our increasing insecurities, we fall back on accumulating “stuff” to fill that lack of confidence and security. In the end, we get more frustrated as we try to find ways to deal with the ever increasing clutter that we’ve built over time.
Shopping centres.
Newly opened shopping centres often have been designed by their architects to not just house the various shops but also to provide a sense of space and to help shoppers relax. But months later, you’ll see the management of the buildings start filling up those spaces with shopping carts and permanent fixtures in an attempt to maximize their profits. I’ve wondered how many architects have gone postal or have felt like killing themselves over what these “business” savvy people have done to their creations.
Again. Space.
I think we need more of it for leisure purpose, even just for people to sit there, think of nothing and just idle away. It should help many of us deal with the amount of stresses that we face everyday, something like a time off. So, please, do give me some space.
