The fisherman…
A friend of mine told me a story about a fisherman the other day. It goes like this.
There was once this fisherman. Every morning he would go out to the sea and come back with his catch and sell them at the local market. By the afternoon he would have gotten everything done and would then settle back and relax with his family, playing with his kids etc. Once in a while the whole family would take a trip to somewhere together.
One day a financial planner came along and saw how the fisherman was living his life. He then took the fisherman one side and told the him that he was wasting his time. The financial planner then went to tell the fisherman how he could work out a plan to help him retire 20 years down the road.
He suggest that the fisherman follow his plan and work doubly hard, instead of fishing only in the morning, fish in the afternoon as well to double his profits. He estimate that in 5 years with the additional income he would be able to get another boat and hire some people to help him do additional fishing. In another 5 years time, he would have enough to own a fleet of ships that would be able to work out even more profits for him. If he continues with that, in another 10 years he could be able to list his company on the open market and by then he would be able to retire.
The fisherman, after hearing all that, looked up at the financial planner and asked, "So what will I be doing when I retire?"
The financial planner answered, "Well, you could then spend time with your family, be able to travel to anywhere you want and see the world. Basically live a good life."
The fisherman then replied, "Am I not doing that now?"
