Channel 5 news sucks…

Sometimes due to work commitment I fail to catch the 8.30 news on Channel i so I have to catch the 9.30 one on Channel 5. What I can say is that the news content for Channel 5 is extremely weak. And recently, instead of news, they’ve dedicated a significant part of their news program featuring potential contestants for the Singapore Idol show.

Why can’t they keep all these to some entertainment news or program? I watch the news to get an update on the happenings on what went on for the day around the world as well as local, not to see you feature an entertainment program like some lengthy advertisement campaign.

Mediacorp, first you loose your creativity and originality, now, you don’t even know what kind of content you should be running in your programs… Eh, news program is news program, entertainment is entertainment, don’t waste people’s time…

Entertainment news is something that is newsworthy. What they’re doing here is just advertising for their own program in a news program. They could have done this at another time slot or as an advertisement. I mean, who the hell cares if you’re keeping your judges’ identities as secret? We’ll eventually know when the competition start.

And this sickening trend of buying other people’s programs and airing it in Singapore and then having to do tons and tons of advertisements that costs money to advertise. Why can’t Singapore produce programs that other people would buy?

I’ve seen work by local small production companies that are superb both in content and quality of production being sold to overseas tv stations. They should be the ones running the tv stations in Singapore. Innovation and creativity. Why are we paying tv licenses for? What kind of crap are they giving us? Last year or two years back it was Channel i that broadcast Anna and the Kind on Vesak day, this year it’s Channel 5. Can’t they be more innovative than that?

We work ourselves to shit over the week. Sometimes we go home and we just want to see something entertaining on TV, not this over saturation of reality TV and “Fear Factor” type programs. And for goodness sake! Keep the news as news!!! Maybe Channel 5 should think about just using Channelnews Asia for their news and forget about their own tv news.
